Goals
Based on the March 2007 EBM workshop, these work groups have the following goals. The work groups have decided to join together and work collaboratively toward these goals.
- To learn about the implementation of EBM by understanding how best to manage the interactions between ecology and human activities in the pilot project areas.
- To create and make accessible coupled human/ecosystem models for managers to assist in making coastal and ocean decisions.
Member list
Subgroups
At the meeting on October 19, 2007, it was decided to create 4 sub-groups to pursue aspects of the Work Group 1 & 2 activities. Members joined subgroups based on their skills and interests.
- Goals Subgroup Lead: Jud Crawford
Update 1/15/08: After a bit of background research, this group developed a list of critical ecosystem services (Excel, 32 KB) in each of the pilot site areas, as well as a report listing the goals and explaining the process (Word, 80 KB) and thinking behind the list. Note that this is simply a starting point to inform the data and modeling sub-groups. It is by no means the final list. - Modeling Subgroup Lead: Les Kaufman
Update 1/15/08: Les and and others are meeting with the Gund Institute in late February to discuss next steps and we will keep the entire group informed. - Data Subgroup Lead: Nick Wolff
Update 1/15/08: Nick has created a data portal for this group to share data that are pertinent to the development of the MIMES model. - Funding Subgroup Lead: Andy Rosenberg
Update 1/15/08: Andy Rosenberg and others are working on funding sources to hire a few post-docs to work specifically on these pilot projects

The Global Change Master Directory metadata portal for the EBM pilot projects is now live at http://gcmd.nasa.gov/portals/ebm/.
Here is more information about the portal from Nick Wolff.
