The Habitat Conservation Subcommittee is creating an inventory of tools for marine habitat conservation in the Gulf of Maine. These projects should have a focus on marine habitat conservation and should be an ongoing effort with implications, models, or applications to the broader Gulf of Maine. Description:
A chemical contaminants monitoring program in the Gulf of Maine
administered by the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment.
Habitat conservation-related work:
Regional near-shore contaminant monitoring using the blue mussel
(Mytilus edulis) as an indicator of habitat exposure to pollutants.
Available tools:
Data on PAH, PCB, metal and pesticide concentrations found in
blue mussels can be downloaded from the Gulf of Maine Council
website as html, text or Excel files.
