Perley Brook is threatened with not meeting Class B water quality standards as a result of agricultural runoff from both livestock and row crop activities. The Phase II Implementation project was part of a larger, multi-phase South Perley Brook Restoration effort aimed at improving the water quality of a tributary to South Perley Brook. The combined projects planned to install covered manure storage facilities at two livestock operations (800 cattle and 300 cattle) at the headwaters of the brook. This 319 project installed a covered manure storage facility at the larger facility, while a separate State Nutrient Management Program grant addressed the second, smaller facility. In addition, the project assisted landowners in recognizing appropriate use measures and BMPs.
