Pearce, Jack. The Health of the Gulf of Maine Ecosystem: Cumulative Impacts of Multiple Stressors - Workshop Executive Summary. 18-20 September 1995. 15 pp.

This workshop was convened by the Regional Association for Research on the Gulf of Maine and took place on September 18-20, 1995 at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the major factors affecting the overall health of the Gulf of Maine ecosystem. The factors identified at this meeting are over fishing, contaminant introduction, physical atleration and loss of critical habitat, effects of human activities on endangered or threatened species, factors external to the Gulf of Maine and decision-making practices. The three options to help combat these factors were decided to be research, management and education and information sharing. For each of the identified factors, this summary discusses the nature of the problem, the status of knowledge and the ways in which the three identified options could be used.
