Protecting the Gulf of Maine from Land Based Activities, Workshop II: Developing Strategies and Actions. Global Programme of Action Coalition for the Gulf of Maine. 15-17 November 1998. 32 pp.

This workshop was a follow-up to the workshop held in April 1998 where priority pollutants were identified and actions to protect coastal and marine environments in the Gulf of Maine from land based sources of pollution were developed. This workshop met in November 1998 in Portland, Maine. The participants at the workshop grouped the issues identified previously into five major categories: sewage and eutrophication, toxics, coastal development, physical alterations to water flow and salt marshes and resource use. Scoping papers for each grouping were commissioned to review current programs that address habitat and pollutant issues. This report contains descriptions of the three strategies developed by the participants for each of the five categories, as well as descriptions of the issues. The report also contains a summary of the finance presentations given throughout the workshop.
