  1.2 Description
1.2.1 Abstract:sflj.zip, sfla.zip, sfls.zip, sflc.zip are binary raster files representing habitats for smooth
flounder in Great Bay and the Seabrook/Hampton Estuary, NH, based on collection information, observations by
local experts and water depth, bathymetry, salinity, and temperature conditions. Juvenile, adult, and spawning
habitats were separately identified, by season of the year. Habitats were analysed using spatial models, based
on the literature and local input. Habitat coverages were created by first indexing preferrences for the four
environmental parameters on a common scale, then combining these index values into coverages of habitat
suitability. Habitat coverages were compared to occurrence data from surveys and input from expert opinion
from academic and agency biologists. The models were revised to optimize the outputs; output coverages were
converted to raster format (Juvenile habitat, sflj.zip; adult habitat, sfla.zip; spawning habitat, sfls.zip) then
combined to delineate the overall extent of habitats (sflc.zip). For methods see Banner, A. and G. Hayes. 1996.

2.5.2.1 PROCESS DESCRIPTION: Habitat coverages were created by first converting the 4 input coverages from
environmental values to suitability coverages based on those values, using lookup tables for each parameter.
The suitability coverages were combined as geometric means, producing coverages of habitat suitability.
Habitat suitability coverages by season were combined to produce coverages for each life stage.
Life stage coverages were combined to produce a coverage representing overall habitat.
Outputs were compared to occurrence data from surveys and input from expert opinion from academic and agency
biologists. The models were revised to optimize the outputs. See documentation in Banner, A. and G. Hayes. 1996.

5 Entity and Attribute Information
  5.2 OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
5.2.1 Entity and Attribute Overview: Value - integer representing the relative
magnitude of habitat value, with higher values indicating progressively more favorable
conditions for the species; Count - integer summing the number of grid cell having that specific value.
