About the Gulf
The Gulf of Maine is bordered by Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. It covers 93,000 square kilometers (36,000 square miles) of ocean and has 12,000 kilometers (7,500 miles) of coastline.
2012-2017 Action Plan
The 2012-2017 Action Plan describes the goals, outcomes, activities, and crosscutting initiatives that the Council and other organizations are pursuing to achieve the long-term vision of a healthy and resilient Gulf of Maine.
KnowledgeBase
The Knowledgebase is a searchable catalogue of documents and data sets for the Gulf of Maine/Bay of Fundy region. It is augmented by the Gulf of Maine library, a repository of over 400 printed documents, that is housed at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences.
Habitat Restoration
Gulf of Maine Council's Habitat Restoration subcommittee is developing a Gulf-wide coastal and marine habitat restoration strategy, assisting in implementation of the Gulf of Maine Council/NMFS restoration partnership grant program, and pursuing land protection initiatives.
Gulfwatch
The Gulfwatch Contaminants Monitoring Committee assesses human and environmental health issues and implements contaminant-monitoring efforts in the Gulf of Maine.
Ecosystem Indicators
The EcoSystem Indicator Partnership is developing indicators for the Gulf of Maine and integrating regional data for Web-based tools for ecosystem monitoring. ESIP is convening regional practitioners in seven indicator areas: Coastal development, contaminants and pathogens, eutrophication, aquatic habitat, fisheries, aquaculture, and climate change.
State of the Gulf of Maine
The Gulf of Maine is a dynamic, changing ecosystem. Bordered by the northeastern United States and the Canadian Maritime Provinces, the Gulf of Maine is one of the largest semi-enclosed coastal seas in North America.

Through its subcommittees and projects, and in partnerships with regional providers, the Gulf of Maine Council provides access to maps, data and tools for the Gulf of Maine region.

The Gulf of Maine Council publishes high quality reports and fact sheets on matters affecting all who live and work in the region.
